NOTES
Additional Information:Information from local walking tour: This building was originally a Queen Anne style building and served as the Greenfield Hotel from approximately 1890-1910. William Mirgeler operated a saloon here from approximately 1910-1915. Frank Komar served soft drinks here from approximately 1915-1930. John Yakske continued this trade from approximately 1930-1940. The building was radically altered in 1953 when the top two floors were removed from the building and it was remodeled into a tavern.

This building was previously surveyed in 1980 (when it was Bowman's restaurant). Due to the integrity requirements associated with the 2007 survey, an update card was not provided. Building was initially part of the proposed National Commercial Historic District, the district of which no longer held by 2007.

2017 survey information:
This one-story structure consists of a circa 1891-92, vinyl-sheathed block with modern fenestration at the rear and a one-story, brick addition (1953) to the front (along W. National Avenue). The 1953 portion is topped with a flat roof with overhanging eaves and includes a continuous band of windows that wraps around the southwest corner of the building. Entrances to the building are located along W. National Avenue, as well as along S. 81st Street, the latter example including a modest flat-roof overhang. A shed-roofed, open-air deck extends from the building to the east.

The one-story rear portion of the building was originally the first floor (or a portion thereof) of the Greenfield Hotel which was built between 1891 and 1892 by William Mirgeler. Historic images of the hotel (See Appendix, Image #2) indicate that the building was a two-and-one-half-story, Queen Anne-style structure with a wraparound porch; the hotel reportedly had thirteen rooms. In 1953, owner Joe Pintar had the second floor of the hotel removed and built the extant brick-faced building onto the front, at an approximate cost of $25,000. The remodeled structure continued to operate as Pintar’s Tap, after which it changed hands and names over the years, operating currently as Jack Rabbit Slims.
