NOTES
Additional Information:Resting on a stone foundation and sheathed with aluminum, this large, two-story house consists of a gabled ell block with a long, gabled wing at the rear. A flat-roofed porch enclosed with sheet siding is positioned within the juncture of the ell. Canted bays topped with iron casting are fitted onto both the east and north elevations. The rear wing north elevation has a small, pent-like entry porch roof supported by metal posts. A gabled wall dormer is centered on the north roof slope. Fenestration generally consists of one-over-one, double-hung sashes arranged singly and in pairs. There are also several large picture windows. To the south of the house is a front-gabled garage.

The house was built between 1872 and 1891 for David and Serena Topping. The house was financed by Serena's father, Richard Weaver, who was one of Wisconsin's leading hop dealers. David Topping was an owner of a general store and served as the local postmaster. The Toppings lived in the house for a number of years before selling it to Fred Boots, who passed it onto to his daughter Pearl in 1955. Pearl was a postmaster in Sussex for 22 years. By 1960, the house was sold to Orville Cullen, who converted the property into a duplex. Currently, (2002) the house is a real estate office.

Resurveyed January 2017. No visible changes.
