Mary. D. Bradford became suprintendent of Kenosha's schools in 1910, the second woman in the country to hold such a position. She retired in 1921. Open air schools for the physically ill were among the programs she encouraged. This building replaced the temporary openn-air schools built during Bradford's tenure.
