NOTES
Additional Information:A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, State Historic Preservation Office. This gabled, Cape Cod house is sheathed with stone. The home's primary facade features a front-gabled projection that carries two pairs of six-over-six-light sashes, both of which are topped with metal awnings. A single, circular window is situated within the gabled peak. The side-gabled wing to the east carries another pair of multiple-light sashes, which is also topped with an awning; a single, gabled dormer rises from the roofline. The original owners were Walter and Anne Sauer. Walter worked as a carpenter at the American Brass Company. SAUER WAS INSPIRED BY A SOUTH MILWAUKEE COBBLESTONE HOUSE AND DECIDED IT WAS A CHEAP AND ATTRACTIVE MATERIAL. Walter and Anne gathered rock from various locations in the Kenosha area, including the lakefront and farmers' fields. Walter split the rock himself. He began with the garage and in about six months, he finished it and the house. Walter remained in the home until at least 1989, by then, a widower. FOR ARTICLE. [Date Cnst:CA]
