NOTES
Additional Information:The two-story portion of this building was built in 1884. Sanborn maps indicate that the one-story building to the north was added between 1892 and 1900. In 1929, renovations were completed by JCPenney when it moved into the two-story building and, in 1939, when it expanded into the one-story building to the north. In 1954, JC Penney moved to 131 North Main Street and in 1955, Leys Department Store moved into the subject building. The tile between the first and second floors is believed to have been added when Leys Department Store moved in. It’s unclear as to when the metal was added to the upper level; however, it is presumed to have been done sometime in the 1970s.
