Ho-Chunk (Winnebago) interviews, "Women's Role in Tribal Life"
Ho-Chunk (Winnebago) interviews, "Women's Role in Tribal Life"
Sound recording
Interviews with Ho-Chunk (Winnebago) elders on the topic of women's role in tribal life. Tribal elders discuss the roles of women in everyday life. Topics include telling stories, attending powwows, singing songs, powwow activities used to create friendship ties with the Potawatomi, and more. One elder talks about the differences with younger women in how they participate in powwows. Elders discuss the changes in the role of women and how their activities differed from men. Note: In most interviews, tribal elders themselves narrate their own stories. In some interviews, an unknown speaker will narrate the written stories of tribal elders.
