Frank Elliott interviews Elizabeth Hawkes on September 13, 1955, in Washburn, Wisconsin. Hawkes discusses her work for Representative Hubert H. Peavey (R-WI and his political philosophies and accomplishments, the 1930 election for Speaker of the House, the Indian Reorganization Act (also known as the Wheeler-Howard Act, and her own unsuccessful 1944 bid for office and her opinions on her opponent Alvin O'Konski. Hawkes also talks about the Wisconsin Progressive movement and the La Follette family, including the election of Robert La Follette, Jr. to his father's vacant senate seat, and the political motivations of Phil La Follette. In addition, she talks about the now defunct 10th Congressional District (which encompassed much of northern Wisconsin, as well as national loyalty during wartime. Prominent figures mentioned include Tom Amlie, Fiorello La Guardia, Bert Snell, John Garner, Paul Kvale, Edgar Howard, Frank Kellogg, Joe Beck, and Peter Cadigan.
