The boys lived with their parents, William F. and Alma Schmidt Petersen, a block away at 1322 North Astor Street. There are cars on a street in the background. The Palmer mansion, built in 1882, was faced with granite quarried near Endeavor, Wisconsin. It had a massive chimney and multiple crenellated towers. The mansion was demolished in 1950.
