Man Inspecting Ring Gear

A male employee inspects the ring gear which was later purchased by F.L. Smidth and Company of New York, New York, and used by St. Lawrence Cement Company of Clarkson, Ontario, Canada. The gear is a part of a large cement kiln. Original Falk caption reads, "Assembling the two halves of a 22 foot diameter ring gear casting. Gear Description: 265 teeth, 1 DP, 23 inch face, 10 degree helix angle, single helical full depth mill type teeth, right handed helix. The casting material is Falk Annealed FC cast steel. The rough weight of the complete casting is 64800 pounds." "The gear shown is on Falk Drawing 412194 and the layout of the holes in the gear is shown on drawing 412275. The mold was made from pattern 604177 AB. Each of these gears will be driven by two 22 tooth pinions which are shown on drawing 319939." "The first four gears in the immediate background were manufactured on M.O 5841-0260 and are shown on Falk Drawing 41283."
