Quarter-length portrait of Edwin Eldridge. He was the first curator of the Layton Art Gallery, and an accomplished portrait artist. He stimulated an interest in art in Wisconsin by giving lectures to public schools and teacher associations.

Frederick Layton gave this hand-colored photograph of himself in his garden on Marshall Street to his niece Elizabeth Layton Fowle on August 8, 1914. He died in 1919.
