View down tree-lined country road near Wausau, taken by Dr. Joseph Smith, talented amateur photographer. It depicts women (probably members of his family) driving a horse and buggy. In the background is a field of grain. The picture captures the spirit of the pleasure drive movement of the 19th century, but it was by no means typical of the road conditions faced by Wisconsin travelers.
