Waist-up portrait of Brown Siverson [as written on portrait; also written as Brown Syverson on Descriptive Rolls, Volume 20 and published roster: Wisconsin Volunteers: War of the Rebellion, 1861-1865 (1914); also Brown Syvertson (Roster of Wisconsin Volunteers: War of the Rebellion, 1861-1865 [Vol. 1] (1886); Brown Syvortsen (Department of Veterans Affairs: Grave Site Locator], a sergeant in Company B, 15th Wisconsin Infantry in uniform, holding a musket across his chest. The following information was obtained from the Regimental and Descriptive Rolls, Volume 20: He resided in Deerfield, Wisconsin. On October 22, 1861, he enlisted in Madison, Wisconsin and on November 11, 1861, he was mustered into service in Madison, Wisconsin at the age of 28. When he first enlisted he held the rank of corporal and was promoted to sergeant in June/July 1863. On October 13, 1863, he was sent to serve as a guard with a supply train to Stevenson, Alabama. He was wounded in the head on May 27, 1864, in the Altoona Hills near New Hope Church, Georgia. He died of his wounds on June 6, 1864, in Chattanooga, Tennessee and is buried in the National Cemetery in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Section E, grave 536.
