Potowatomi Joe Wisconsin

Joe Wisconsin, a Potowatomi Indian, grandson of Sheboygan war chief Pa-mob-a-mee. Wisconsin was born at Sheboygan Falls about 1833 and is known to have been living in Forest County in 1918. The photograph was made at the Bird & Wells camp near Wausaukee. This image is part of an exhibit about Native Americans prepared by Paul Vanderbilt, the Wisconsin Historical Society's first curator of photography.
