John Suhr Residence

John J. Suhr residence at 121 Langdon Street, designed by City Engineer and architect Captain John Nadar. Built in 1886 for immigrant John J. Suhr, Sr. (1836-1901), founder of the German-American Bank, later renamed the American Exchange Bank. A group of women are sitting on the front porch. This is reportedly the first private dwelling in the city to feature steam-heating. At right, the Alexander H. Main residence, built 1892.
