Founder's Oak
Image
An enormous, nearly symmetrical spreading bur oak tree towering over a picnic table and a row of conifers. Samuel Faulkner Phoenix, the founder of Delavan, reported in his diary that he slept under this tree on July 2, 1836. Soon thereafter, he established a sawmill nearby on Lake Delavan. The tree was estimated to be over 400 years old in 1982.
