Yahara River Mill

Image

A grist mill on the Yahara River at the outlet of Lake Mendota. The mill, called Farwell's Madison Mills was built in 1850 by Governor Farwell. The original mill burned down in 1873. A horse and wagon in the background reads: "Madison City Mills." The buildings on the right were a brewery owned in 1852 by White and Rodermund. The brewery was eventually sold to Joseph Hausmann and used as a malt house.
