Old Abe Portrait

Image

Carte-de-visite portrait of a stuffed bald eagle, purportedly, Old Abe. There is a flag at the left and at the bottom is written "The Eagel [sic] of The Eight Wis.V.V." Authenticity of the portrait, however, is doubtful because of the date of the photo and the appearance of the bird. Old Abe died in 1881, after this photo of a stuffed bird was taken. Additionally, the pose of the bird is quite different from the taxidermy treatment of Old Abe. See for comparison image 23198.
