Original caption reads, "Showing contrast in mask used for man and horse. The fact that horse never breathes thru his mouth makes a gas mask a simple object to make for him. Horses have been known to live several hours thru a gas attack without a mask and show no ill effects. 82nd Div. Chtel, Ardennes, France."
