Greeting astronaut James A. Lovell (4th from the left) and his wife at the airport are Wisconsin Governor Warren P. Knowles (2nd from the left) and Mrs. Dorothy Knowles. At this time Lovell had already flown in two Gemini missions. Between Knowles and Lovell, is Astronaut Donald K. "Deke" Slayton of Sparta. Although selected as part of the original Mercury 7 astronauts, Slayton's space travel was then on hold because of his health.
