Making Grasshopper Bait

Image

At the grasshopper bait mixing station at Fall Creek, two cement mixers were used to mix sawdust, a whey product, and sodium arsenite. So severe was the grasshopper outbreak of 1938 in northwestern Wisconsin that the station operated twenty-four hours a day, putting out 50-60 tons of bait.
