Sawmill in Porterville
Image
The sawmill of Gilbert E. Porter and Delos R. Moon was located on the Chippewa River approximately three miles southwest of the city of Eau Claire. In 1873 the concern's name was changed to the North Western Lumber Company. At its peak the NWLC employed 700 men, including those who worked at the firm's other mill in Stanley, Wisconsin. By 1892, the two mills had a combined yearly output of 60 million board feet of lumber.
