Caryl Fairchild
Image
Portrait of Caryl Fairchild (later Caryl Fairchild Bacon), youngest daughter of former governor and Civil War hero Lucius Fairchild. This photograph is dated "Christmas 1896." Because her father had died only six months earlier, the color of Caryl's dress with its enormous puffed sleeves is a sign that she was still in mourning.
