First McCormick Reaper Re-Enactment
Image
Re-enactors demonstrating a replica of the first reaper built by Cyrus Hall McCormick in 1831. The man raking at the back of the reaper appears to be playing the part of Cyrus McCormick's slave, Jo Anderson. The actor also appeared in the feature film "Romance of the Reaper". The film was produced in 1929 by International Harvester to celebrate the one-hundred year anniversary of the invention of the reaper (also known as the "reaper centennial"). The re-enactment probably took place on McCormick's Walnut Grove Farm in Rockbridge County.
