Students from the U.S. Coast Guard Hospital Corps School perform practical experiments for the chemistry phase of their course. The officer in charge of the University of Columbia contingent was pharmacist R.J. Bussey. He was assisted by three Chief Pharmacist Mates from the service, who acted as instructors, assisting the regular school faculty.
