SNAP-27 Beryllium Container Built for Apollo 12

Artist's illustration of a beryllium container built by the Solar Division of International Harvester. The container was intended to be used as a power source for instruments used by Apollo 12 astronauts on the moon. Original caption reads: "An artist's rendering illustrates how the SNAP-27 will appear after one of the Apollo 12 astronauts places it on the moon. Solar built the finned beryllium container in the foreground under a $3.6 million contract to General Electric. A thermoelectric generator inside the container will provide power to operate instruments which are seen in the background."
