Dow Riot Protest Poster
Image
Poster with a large image of the Dow Riot (Oct. 18, 1967) on the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus, showing riot police beating protesters. Includes the Lyndon Baines Johnson quote, "Our foreign policy must always be an extension of this nation's domestic policy. Our safest guide to what we do abroad is a good look at what we are doing at home." According to Bob Gabriner (private communication, Jan. 29, 2013), editor of the Madison underground newspaper "Connections," the paper issued it shortly after the demonstration. An initial printing of 1,000 copies sold out on the first day, and additional printings were required in the weeks that followed.
