Torger Roethe

Head and shoulders portrait of Torger Roethe [as written on portrait backing; also written as Torger Larson on all rosters; also written as Torger Larson Rothie on Civil War Pension Index], a private in Company C, 15th Wisconsin Infantry. The following information was obtained from the Regimental and Descriptive Rolls, Volume 20: He resided in Deefield, Wisconsin. On February 9, 1864, he enlisted in Madison, Wisconsin and on May 16, 1864, he was mustered into service in Madison, Wisconsin at the age of 19. He joined Company C on March 31, 1864, at Strawberry Plains, Tennessee. During the fighting near New Hope Church, he was wounded on May 27, 1864, and sent to Keokuk, Iowa to recover. He was transferred to Company I, 13th Wisconsin on June 10, 1865. He was mustered out of service on May 20, 1865, in Davenport, Iowa by the authority from the War Department per general order dated May 3, 1865.
