General Store
Image
Black watercolor of a single-story store with large wood-framed, plate-glass windows, a false front and a pitched roof. The building's external side wall bears the store name, Gomez Merchandise, and it borders another shop to the left. The entrance is accessible by an elevated boardwalk of rough planks and timbers. A centrally located tree splits the composition of the building, a railroad track runs at a slight diagonal in the lower foreground, and stylized clouds hover over a mountain ridge capped with alpine trees in the background. Text in the lower right hand corner reads: "Gomez's Merchandise Junction '74, Paoosa for Boyum." The inscription suggests that the painting was a gift to Sid by an artist named Paoosa.
