Street Scene

Image

The printed inscription identifies this scene, "Looking South on Main Street, Montello, Wis." A woman is standing on the sidewalk at left near a parked buggy and wagon. There two-story brick building on the left with painted signage on the wall is O.E. Kehlet's Montello Mercantile Co. store. Other commercial buildings with large awnings line that side of the street. Toward the far end of the street, on the right, is the Marquette County Courthouse, a two-story building with a hipped, standing seam metal roof. A hanging sign identifies the Tremont House hotel, with its open porch and covered artesian well. There are two buggies in the street on the right.
