Lake Survey Map of Lakes Island, Mason, and Chain

These three lake survey maps show Island Lake in the Towns of Iron River and Keystone, Bayfield County; Chain Lake in the Town of Big Bend, Rusk County, and the Town of Sampson, Chippewa County; and Manson Lake in the Town of Woodboro, Oneida County, Wisconsin. The maps show the depth of each lake by contour lines along with sounding depths in feet. In addition, the maps provide details regarding the lake bed composition, buildings, and shoreline vegetation. The maps were drawn between November 1938 and May 1939. The Island Lake map reads: "Nov. 16, 1938 ; compiled by W.P.A. dist. 2 ; traced by R.F.F.; 1 inch = 165 feet." The Chain Lake map reads: "February 7, 1939 ; compiled by H.K. ; traced by H.G.O. ; work agency W.P.A.; 1 inch = 880 feet." The Manson Lake map reads: "May 11, 1939 ; compiled by E.H. ; traced by W.P.S. ; work agency CCC; 1 inch = 440 feet."
