Map
This map of America is the oldest map in the Parker collection. It is based on the geography of Ortelius, who is considered to be the creator of the first modern atlas and the first to propose a theory of continental drift. This map is believed to be from the 1596 edition of Ptolemy's Geografia, printed in Venice. The map depicts North and South America, with the mythical great southern continent below and a bulge on the southwest coast of South America.
