Summary
These 21 buildings were constructed between 1868 and 1921 in an eight-block district on either side of the Milwaukee River along Wells Street, North Water Street, and North Plankinton Avenue. The buildings are of mixed commercial use, including offices, retail, manufacturing, and restaurants, and were designed in a wide range of architectural styles by prominent architects for the city's wealthiest German-American leaders.
