Birge Hall is contributing to the Bascom Hill Historic District, NR listed 1974, NRIS #: 74000065 "As you head east down Bascom Hill, to your immediate right stands a dusky sandstone structure with a yellow brick addition. This is Birge Hall, named for Edward Asahel Birge, a renowned naturalist, professor of biology, and president of the University, 1918-25. Birge pioneered the study of lakes. Built in 1910, the Biology Building was dedicated at Birge Hall in 1950 after the emeritus president's death at age 98. In the first floor lobby is a natural history exhibit.
