It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, State Historic Preservation Office. Neo-Classical Revival building is in red brick with white frame detail. Original cost was $50,000. University of Wisconsin-Madison Tour Guide: South Campus: This building was the Forest Products Laboratory from 1910 to 1932. Mining and Metallurgy moved in in 1932; the most recent addition is a two-story brick addition built in 1975. This department was started in 1871 by Roland Duer Irving. His most famous student, Charles R. Van Hise, received the first Ph.D. degree ever conferred by the UW in 1892 and was made department head the same year. 2024: the 1974 and 1995 addition was removed.
