A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, State Historic Preservation Office. Built at the early part of the large 1929-40 school-building effort in Janesville, the Roosevelt School is historically significant as one of the "modern" schools constructed to bring Janesville's schools up to date and to handle the population increase in the city during the 1920s. The school is also architecturally significant because of its fine Classical Revival style details, including pediments, a round portico, and bays. The openings of the building have not been enclosed as is the case of most school buildings of this era, but are filled with multi-light sashes, adding to the historic appearance of the building.
