1998- The Wausau USARC consists of two buildings located on four acres of land. The area immediately surrounding the buildings is mostly covered by asphalt or concrete, with an area of mature White Pine trees. A majority of the land has been heavily disturbed by construction activities; however, the pine tree areas appear undisturbed. The facility is located in an urban area. Wausau USARC consists of a training building and a vehicle maintenance building (Organizational Maintenance Shop or OMS in Army Reserve terminology). The buildings are in good condition and do not appear to have been modified since their original construction. Neither of them exhibit significant architectural character or merit. The training building functions as an administrative and drill facility for Wausau USARC. Constructed in 1958, it is an irregular-shaped building consisting of a one-story rectangular administration section connected to a 1½-story drill hall by a one-story enclosed corridor. The building rests on a poured concrete foundation and has concrete block walls with a brick veneer. A recessed entrance with a pedestrian door and windows is located on the south wall of the administration section. Windows are located around the perimeter of the administration section. A metal overhead-retractable bay door and a single metal pedestrian door are located on the west wall of the drill hall. A mid-slope chimney is located on the ease half of the administration section. Low-pitch gable roofs cover the structure. |
