SLIGHTLY PROJECTING ENTRANCE BAYS W/RECESSED WINDOWS. VERY SIMPLE GEOMETRIC TRIM ON PARAPETS. SLIGHTLY RECESSED WINDOWS W/SPANDREL PANELS. 4TH & 5TH FLRS ARE SET BACK FROM BLDG EDGE. May 2001-The Marinette County Courthouse, erected in 1942 (datestone), is an Art Deco building, four stories tall on a raised basement. Finished with smooth faced, cream and gray stone, it exhibits 1/1 aluminum windows in reduced openings. The front façade of the Courthouse features a three story, parapeted, projecting entrance pavilion. The entrance and two stories of paired windows above are recessed within a rectangular opening framed with a stylized and oversized bead and reel molding. On either side of the pair of doors, four stone panels appear, carved with scenes representing events in the history of Marinette County. Above the entrance, a stone panel appears with the letters reading: MARINETTE COUNTY COURT HOUSE. A stone eagle is perched above this panel. However, the project to reconstruct USH 41 proposes to reconstruct the roadway at a reduced width, and match the sidewalk in kind and in place in front of the courthouse. This project has no potential to affect the historic character of the Marinette County Courthouse. |
