Additional Comments 2018- The Irish Road Bridge (WisDOT structure ID P-08-021) is located in the Town of Brillion in Calumet County. It was probably built during 1900-1910. Neither the engineer nor the contractor are known. The structure is a rubble-limestone bridge with six nearly identical, segmental arches of about 13 feet span and 2 feet 8 inch rise. The piers are about 5 feet thick. Perpendicular wing walls at the northwest end have collapsed. There are no wing walls at the southeast end. The arches spring from the waterline. Stone railings traverse both sides. Originally about 3 feet 6 inches high, the railings are missing blocks of stone at both ends of the bridge. Approximately one-half of the flat coping stones along the railing are missing, although the walls remain intact. The bedding plane of the bridge’s limestone is about 5 to 8 inches thick, which is consistent with other locally quarried limestone construction. The spandrel walls are pierced by cast-iron drain pipes at the roadway level, about 2 feet about the top of the arches. The bridge’s total length is about 140 feet; width about 21 feet. Village of Brillion had two active limestone quarries and may have provided the stone. stone arch bridge
