01/2021: The property includes a ca. 1900 gabled ell dwelling (a), a ca. 1900 gambrel barn (b) with a large side appendage, paired ca. 1970 concrete stave silos (c-d), a ca. 1900 outbuilding of undetermined function (e), and a ca. 1975 large metal outbuilding (f) associated with an additional non-historic-age metal barn. The highly-altered dwelling (a) has undergone numerous phases of addition and alteration that obscure its original form, fenestration pattern, and relevant architectural detailing. The resource (a) has a large addition across the primary façade as well as lateral and rear wing additions that almost double its original footprint. It features a side-gabled asphalt shingle roof, replacement vinyl siding, a variety of window types including original 2/2 wood windows and vinyl replacement windows, and large front and rear additions.
The gambrel barn (b) has also been altered, featuring a large metal pole barn addition on the western elevation obscuring its original fenestration pattern, an asphalt shingle roof with small hay hood, replacement corrugated metal cladding, and a large replacement sliding bay door on the north elevation. The paired concrete stave silos (c and d) are located immediately east of the barn (b). The small, ca. 1900 outbuilding (e), located between the dwelling and the barn, features a gabled roof of corrugated metal, original vertical wood plank siding, and a stone perimeter foundation. The large outbuilding (f) located east of the dwelling features a corrugated metal roof, metal siding, and a large door. The large metal-clad barn behind the gambrel barn (b) is not of historic age.
According to the 1914 and 1918 Grant County Plat Maps, the property was owned by Herman Feist (Geo. A. Ogle & Company 1918; Kenyon Company 1914). The dwelling (a) is depicted on the 1918 Plat Map (Geo. A. Ogle & Company 1918). The dwelling is depicted on the 1900, 1904, and 1908 Lancaster quadrangle maps (USGS 1900, 1904, and 1908). Review of historic aerial imagery indicates the presence of the dwelling (a), gambrel barn (b), and smaller outbuilding (e) by 1955 (NETR 2020). The concrete stave silos (c-d) and outbuilding (f) appear on site by 1982 (NETR 2020).
