Additional Comments Elm Road to Racine Transmission Line Project - Stantec, Inc. Please refer to (AHI 246707) for a definition of the Oak Creek Generating Site which is comprised of the Elm Road Generating Station and the Oak Creek Power Plant. The Oak Creek Power Plant is split between the North Plant (AHI 246707) and the South Plant (AHI 246708). At present, the Oak Creek Power Plant – South Plant includes four steam turbine-generating units (Units 5 through 8), all of which are in the South Plant. The four steam turbine-generating units in the North Plant, commissioned in the 1950s, were retired by the early 1990s. The four steam turbine-generating units in the South Plant consist of Unit 5 (261 megawatts, commissioned in 1959), Unit 6 (264 megawatts, commissioned in 1961), Unit 7 (298 megawatts, commissioned in 1965), and Unit 8 (312 megawatts, commissioned in 1967). The Unit 8 boiler is 18 stories tall. The existing 368-foot-tall chimney for the South Plant, constructed circa 2012, supports all four South Plant generating units. A 1967 photo shows the North Plant (with the two smaller chimneys of equal height) and the South Plant (with the taller chimneys of different heights) as it appeared once Units 5-8 were in place. The Oak Creek Power Plant maintained this general appearance into the 1990s when Units 1-4 were retired, and the shorter pair of chimneys were removed. A circa 2000 photo illustrates the few major changes that were made after 1967. None of the four chimneys pictured in 1967 are extant. Advanced Air Quality Control Systems (AQCS) were installed in 2012 consisting of Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) controls and Wet Flue Gas Desulfurization (WFGD) controls. The AQCS has resulted in significant changes to the appearance of the Oak Creek Power Plant, including additions to the south side of the South Plant, the removal of the chimneys, and the construction of the extant 368-foot-tall chimney. At present, the Oak Creek Power Plant includes four steam turbine-generating units (Units 5 through 8), all of which are in the South Plant (AHI 246708). 2025: Resurveyed, appearance unchanged.
