| Additional Comments | This two-story Italianate commercial building was constructed c.1880; it initially served as a tavern with an upstairs meeting hall and attached residence. It is L-shaped in plan with cream brick walls and a flat roof. The building consists of two distinct masses: the primary commercial mass and a residential east wing that is set back substantially from the primary façade of the commercial building. The front (south) elevation of the main building mass is symmetrical in composition with a first-story storefront that is clad in vinyl siding. The storefront contains a recessed center entrance flanked by single-pane picture windows. A small asphalt-shingled awning is located above the storefront. The second story of the main building mass contains three, tall, round-arched window openings containing one-over-one windows with arched transoms. The windows are accented by decorative brick hoods. A decorative brick cornice caps the building and features a pattern of corbels and dentils. The front (south) elevation of the east wing is symmetrical in composition and features a hipped-roof porch spanning the first story. The porch roof is clad in metal and is supported by narrow wood columns. Inside the porch is a central front door with two two-over-two windows on each side. This fenestration pattern is mirrored at the second story with a central door providing access to a small recess in the porch roof; windows on each side of this are one-over-one with segmentally-arched crowns. The east wing is capped by a decorative brick cornice. The east elevation of the wing contains a bay window featuring two-over-two windows in each side and decorative wood brackets along its eaves. |
