A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the State Historical Society, Division of Historic Preservation. SEE HAER FORM. HAER WI-62. DOE 03/28/1989 The Western Elevator Co. is the second feed mill to locate on the site. The first one burnt down in 1901. The present structure was built in 1902. At that time it was the only feed and grain mill in the city. The owners were John and Ray Peters. In 1940 the property was purchased by the present (07/1981) owner, George Paltzer. The company incorporated in 1943. The structure has an irregular floor plan, stone foundation, with wood and metal exterior siding. It measures 36'-9" x 84'-10" x 62'-2". It is in fair condition, has rotting wood and a cracked foundation. |
