This five story building has an orange brick exterior with yellow brick piers on the first floor, and accents of egg-and-dart molding. It is architecturally significant for its simple, well proportioned neo-classical design. The building's exterior is unchanged.

HISTORICAL BACKGROUND AND SIGNIFICANCE:

On the site of the old Pfister & Vogel Leather Co. (which lost two buildings in the 1892 fire), this structure was financed by Fred Vogel, Jr. and occupied by Beals & Torrey, which had been in business for 30 years as a wholesale distributor of rubber and leather footwear and the manufacturer of the B-P line of men's shoes. In 1920, James Pratt joined the firm, and its name was changed to Beals-Pratt Shoe Manufacturing Co. It moved shortly thereafter. The building has since been used by Patek Bros. as a glass and paint warehouse.
