Double store building; parapet with corbeling; round arch window lintels with keystone; string course with "dog tooth" type brick work between floors; first floor store front and one upper story window altered. Dave Eulberg identified the more recent use of the building as a barber shop in the east half and as Porter's jewelry shop in the west half in the 1950s and Andy Knippel's jewelry in the 1940s. Between 1888 and 1890, the price rises from $7100 to $12,000. Since the current building stands in 1889, the building was built in 1888-89. Cook about 1908 through 1925. The L.F. Downie Art Studio replaced A.F. Kleist by 1927 and remained at that location through 1929. A barber was located at 107-109 [105-107] W. Cook between at least 1910 and 1955. In 1910 through 1920, Edgard J. Carnegie, and by 1925 through 1930 John Helmann worked as barbers at this address. It became Doc's Barber Shop by 1955. Andrew Knippel located his jewelry store at 107-109 [105-107] W. Cook by 1924 and remained there through 1948. By 1955, the business had become Porter's Jewelry. |
