Additional Comments
Excellent, unusually large and impressive brick front gabled design. Pedimented front facing gable end has wide wood freize board below the raked cornices and there is a band of dogtooth course brick below both the horizontal and the raking cornices in a manner much like denticulation. An occulus window with a header coursed brick surround is placed in the center of this main gable end. All corners of the building have rusticated brick quoins including those of the flat roofed rectilinear bay window on the west facing facade of the building. All windows and the original entrance door have segmental arched openings with double coursed brick corbelled hood moulds above with steps placed above in a manner reminiscent of Italionate design. In plan, the house is a two-story-tall side gabled ell having a one-story-tall gable roofed wing in the rear. This is the most elaborate of all such examples in Green Bay, and is largely intact, at least on the interior. The front porch appears to be largely original, but has been somewhat altered as to the steps. Straubel was a brickmaker; his son, Louis, was founder of Straubel Machine Co.
