William George Bruce was the original owner of this dwelling. Bruce was the founder of the Bruce Publishing Co. and was a member of the Milwaukee Public School Board and the Wisconsin Deep Waterways Commission. He was also Secretary of the Milwaukee Merchants and Manufacturing Association, and President of both the Harbor Commission and Board of Governors of the Milwaukee Auditorium.
Alteration and Additions (as of 1973 survey):
"Evidently the files of the General Office, Building Inspection contain no permits or other records relating to alterations and additions. (Virginia A. Palmer mentions none in her inventory form on this building.) And on the exterior, at least, the home appears to survive unchanged."
