THE STOREFRONT HAS BEEN COMPLETELY ALTERED.

ARCHITECTURAL SIGNIFICANCE:

THE ONLY REMAINING FRAME COMMERCIAL STRUCTURE ON MAIN STREET, THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THIS STRUCTURE HAS BEEN HINDERED BY THE ALTERATION OF THE FRONT AND THE ADDITION OF SIDING.

ACCORDING TO THE INTENSIVE SURVEY REPORT, THE WILLIAM ELGAR GENERAL STORE AND RESIDENCE IS CONTRIBUTING TO THE HISTORIC DISTRICT. IT WAS BUILT BETWEEN 1884 AND 1892. (SEE BIB. REF. A) HOWEVER, ACCORDING TO THE INVENTORY CARD FOR THIS BUILDING, THE DATE OF CONSTRUCTION OCCURRED IN 1866. A REAR ADDITION WAS THEN PRODUCED IN 1888 CA.
