It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, Division of Historic Preservation. To be demolished 6/2008. Glatfelter Paper Co. (Bergstrom D) - the left hand portion of an obtuse-angled utilitarian industrial building, this flat-roofed, three-story brick block has a roadside facade divided by piers into seven recessed panels with corbelled cornices. Identical in height and construction to the right wing, FCS 8/5 has single, stone-silled, vertical windows in each bay. As in FCS 8/4b the windows have been infilled with glass block except where, in the third bay from the left, some are infilled with brick. Vent panels in the basement story of the right two bays are set in enlarged openings. The tall windows of the main, second story have been reduced with brick and vertically split into pairs of square openings. The corbelled dentil course and surmounting parapet trim continue from the adjacent structure. Altered red brick turn of the century industrial building. The Bergstrom Paper Mills began with the Winnebago Paper Mills but these were ultimately replaced by new construction. The company began in 1904, when D.W. Bergstrom Brothers Stove Works. |
