Michel Brewing Co. of La Crosse. The design of the building is attributed to the La Crosse architectural firm of Schick & Stolze, who also designed the Fortney Hotel next door, built in the same year. The Michel Building is rectilinear in plan, measures 25-feet-wide x 75-feet-deep, and has a cut stone foundation. The main facade faces east onto Main Street and it is clad in brick w1th cut stone decorat1on and its second story is dominated by a polygonal oriel window. The Michel Building was determined eligible tor listing in the NRHP on April 19, 19&9, and its history and design are thoroughly treated in the DOE that was written for it. The building is currently occupied by the Commumty Action Program ottices." - "USH 14 Transportation Study ", WisDOT ID #1646-07-00, Prepared by Timothy F Heggland (1995). |
