Additional Comments This building was built for Charles Goette in the 1880s. John Brusenbach operated a saloon here for a number of years. It remained a saloon until prohibition, then became a soda fountain, and a drug store.

This building has marginal historical interest primarily due to its considerable loss of integrity. Although it had several retail businesses in it, it has lost its identity as a comemrcial building and probably does not contribute to the overall development of commerce in the Main Street Commercial Historic District.

Built in the early 1880s on property owned by Charles Goette and used as a dry goods store, this two-story, three-bay brick commercial building is now covered with modern horizontal siding. The historic architectural details have been removed and the storefront with recessed entrance has been remodeled in a contemporary manner. A concrete block and metal sided addition is located at the rear.

The Charles Goette building has suffered extensive and unsympathetic alterations of its architectural character. Because of the extensive alteration of its historic character, this building does not contribute to the proposed Main Street Historic District.
